She then went on to graduate with her medical degree from the University of Illinois College of Medicine before receiving her Master of Public Health degree from Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health where she received the Albert Schweitzer Award and the Harvard Chair as their most outstanding student. Furthering her education, she performed her residency in general surgery at Howard University Hospital and her residency in otolaryngology at the University of Tennessee Health Science Center.
